“Celebrating 101 Years”

  January 30th, 2018

Justin Ritz

Justin Ritz has been with the WJDK Radio Station for 5 years.  Since we only have a newspaper one day a week now, the majority of our news comes from the Radio.

Justin is from the town of Teutopolis, IL which is about 2 1/2 hours south of Morris.  Justin has a Communications Degree from Eastern Illinois University.  He started out as a Sports Broadcaster at Lake Land College in Mattoon for the Football Team and had a sports show.  For 2 years, Justin was the Disc Jockey for a County Show at 8 hours a day on the weekends.

In May 2013, his wife started at JJC and they moved here and that is when he applied for WJDK.  Justin seems to always be on the air since he starts work at 3-4am on 95.7.  He works at the radio station until 11am when he leaves to follow up on stories and do interviews.  Justin comes back on the air from 5-6pm.

Justin uses different sourses including socal media to locate stores, and update latebreaking information.  The live broadcast at 9:15 am and 9:30 am he uses for organizations like: WeCare, Local / State Representatives and outreachs.  He regularly attends the City Council Meetings.

The WCSJ/WJDK radio stations started out with only Facebook pages and only since September 2017 have started a website.  Pat Behrends has also been brought on to help with the news, dictate while people are speaking and launch the website.

You can now have a newsletter sent via email daily at 5pm which has all the news from the day including obituaries.  You can sign up on the website to recieve it.

Starting in 2-3 months they will be adding the "Bright Side" to the news which will contain "feel good stories" for good things happening throughout the community.
